In celebration of the premiere of the second season of Game of Thrones (as though there are any more shows I need to be watching), here's a feature on the lovely Emilia Clarke from Vanity Fair's April issue.
AGE: 23. PROVENANCE: London. DRAMA-SCHOOL DRAMA: "I just applied to drama school, because I thought that's what people do. You just apply and you get in and that's it." WHAT ABOUT A WALKABOUT? After getting rejected from every school she applied to (all of two), Emilia took a "forced gap year." She "worked and worked and worked and worked"—in a call center, and a restaurant, and a bar. She traveled—through Southeast Asia and India and South Africa and Europe—and got "a taste of the real world." TAKE TWO: After attending London's Drama Centre (whose alums include Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy), Emilia was cast as Queen Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's award-winning series Game of Thrones. "I put the blond wig on and it's not me, it's Daenerys, and whatever fear and whatever sort of extreme emotion that I'm feeling as an actor—it's just brilliant for transferring into Daenerys." PLAYING DRESS-UP: The biggest change in the upcoming, second season of Game of Thrones? "I am way more corseted. It's not your typical bonnet duty that you have to go through as a young British actress."
Dress by Valentino.
