A little bit of country: Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers
Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers first came to my attention with their fun cover of George Michael's "Faith." While on traveling in their van from gig to gig, the band covers an assortment of songs of varying genres and time periods (which they aptly title as "The Van Sessions" on their Web site). One particular cover that I was thrilled to find was one of my favorite songs, Patsy Cline's "She's Got You." The ballad was penned by country music artist Hank Cochran for Cline, and it became her next number one hit following the successes of "Crazy" and "I Fall to Pieces."
Nicki and the band's success with the Van Sessions came with their cover of Hall & Oates' "I Can't Go For That," with the video receiving over 1 million views. The band records these sessions with an iPhone and microphone. Explained Bluhm in an interview: "We just did it for fun. I was driving from Phoenix to Pioneer Town, Ca. It's probably shot at about the three-hour mark in the drive." (Source)
I love what they did with "She's Got You" -- enjoy!
