Through the Lens: Emma Watson, Vanity Fair Oct. 2012

The cast of the upcoming adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower.  Photo by Ellen Von Unwerth.

Emma Watson looks stunning in the latest issue of Vanity Fair, wearing Prada heels and a bold printed dress from the brand's Fall 2012 collection (her The Perks of Being a Wallflower co-stars Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller don't look to shabby either).  The styling of the shoot definitely evokes a retro vibe -- the dress is vaguely reminiscent of the '60s-era label Biba.

The film, based on a novel of the same name by Stephen Chbosky, is set for a limited release this week.  Check out behind-the-scenes of the shoot for more great looks, including a '60s mod mirrored dress by Miu Miu (which has also been seen on Chloe Sevigny and Emma Stone).

On another note -- when did Emma get so grown up?  I feel straight-up old.

Style Inspiration: Dear Creatures Fall 2012

Dear Creatures' Fall 2012 campaign is all sorts of classic and cute, with its whimsical cat-centric photos by Yudi Ela.  Their clothes are flattering to the figure and modern, yet with a retro sensibility that I appreciate -- not to mention that the styling is impeccable (and how cute is that little cat hat?).

Designers Bianca Benitez and Rob Sinclair explained to GenArt the inspiration behind the collection and their favorite pieces:
Tell me about the inspiration behind your Fall '12 collection:
Bianca: This may sound cheesy, but we found a stray kitten in our office parking lot that we adopted and he's sort of become our little mascot. So you'll see some cat inspired pieces in the line and he makes a cameo in the Fall 2012 look book.

Do either of you have a favorite piece in this new collection?
Bianca: I love the "Shirley Dress" which is a striped shift sweater dress.
Rob: I like the jaquarded "Cat Face" sweater.

Fashion Flashback: Marc Jacobs S/S 2013

Mod Squad: Marc Jacobs' Spring/Summer 2013 Collection at New York Fashion Week.  Photo by Scott Schuman.

Marc Jacobs' S/S 2013 immediately brought to my mind the designs of Andre Courreges and Pierre Cardin, who pioneered futuristic fashion in the '60s, with their Space Age looks and use of bold stripes, geometric designs and shapes.

Below are some looks straight out of the '60s from Courreges and Cardin.

Fashion Flashback: Jill Stuart RTW Spring 2013

A Golden Age inspired look from Jill Stuart's RTW 2013 collection.

Jill Stuart's RTW Spring 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week was inspired by a number of things that I love: Old Hollywood glamour, couture lingerie and the film L.A. Confidential (she says Kim Basinger's Lynn Bracken, a Veronica Lake-doppelganger, was an influence).

I'm definitely a fan of neo-noir films and the style and atmosphere evoked -- the style draws elements from film noir of the '40s and '50s, but with updated elements.  Below are some of my favorite looks from Jill Stuart's runway show.  I love the silhouettes and movement, with the pleating and use of flowy satin fabrics to create boudoir-inspired looks.  You'll find some old and new inspiration at the end of this post, from Sean Young in Blade Runner to Faye Dunaway in Chinatown (two of my favorites).
