Through the Lens: Prada Candy L'Eau by Wes Anderson & Roman Coppola

French actress Lea Seydoux stars in Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola's New Wave-inspired promos for Prada's Candy L'eau

Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola's collaboration with Prada for the promotion of the brand's new fragrance Candy L'eau will be accompanied by a series of short episodes featuring Lea Seydoux.  The mini film sees Seydoux channeling Jeanne Moreau and draws inspiration from French New Wave cinema of the '60s.

Seydoux explains the story to the Telegraph:
It was Miuccia [Prada]'s choice to work with Wes Anderson on this film, which references [François Truffaut's 1962 film] Jules et Jim . I play a girl caught in a threesome between two boys called Julius and Jim. Wes is extremely precise. The film is a comedy, but he doesn't like you to play at comedy. You have to keep things very straight and very clean. It's just the scene that is comic, not you.

  1. This was really great! It has that Jules et Jim plot, but I can feel also the aesthetics of Godard's Une femme est une femme and the character of Anna Karina there, named Angela, reminds me a bit of Léa too, maybe is just because since I saw Léa in La Belle Personne, I've always had the feeling that she has a resemblance to Karina. And the scene at the beauty salon reminds me of Margot Tenenbaum having her hair done at the beginning of The Royal Tenenbaums too.
